There’s no denying that french fries are awesome. But did you know they’ve been awesome for over 150 years? In fact, the first mention of “French Fried Potatoes” occurred in print as far back as 1856 in a cook book that described the recipe for the tasty dish as follows:
“Cut new potatoes in thin slices, put them in boiling fat, and add a little salt; fry both sides of a light golden brown colour; drain”
They’ve been served as street food for even longer!
Thanks Wikipedia!
Boiling Fat? Be glad you live in the year 2016.
But really, fried in boiling fat? Looks like the French did the best with what they had at the time. The dish was so popular that U.S. President Thomas Jefferson served french fries to guests at a White house dinner back in 1802. And, while we’re certain they were just as delicious back then (maybe?) our steadfast fried potatoes have come a long way since then.
Plenty of Shapes to choose from.
One good example is the shape. The first French fries looked more like potato chips than what we know of today. At some point, they changed shape into the long stick-shape that we’re familiar with today. Granted there are plenty of other shapes that french fries can take as well: curly fries, cross-cut fries, matchstick fries and a few others.
Fries are vegetables. Kind of. But also carbs in moderation.
We also don’t cook them in boiling fat – well, ok we cook them in light, boiling oil but we’re pretty sure that it’s way healthier than boiling in fat. Speaking of healthy – fries aren’t THAT bad for you – as long as you’re not eating too many, you can enjoy a side of them with your burger and feel safe that you’re not going to totally ruin your health. Potatoes are carbs, salt is sodium, oil is oil (but it gets drained off mostly) so no need to think you blew your diet over a little bit of fried goodness.
In the end, it doesn’t really matter where french fries originated or the shape they’re in when you eat them – what matters is what we do with them today. And mostly, according to our research and experience, we eat them. A LOT of them. There’s no hard and fast data on french fry consumption in Malaysia, but let’s face it, we sell you folks a lot of fries and from what we see, you can’t get enough.
And that’s cool with us. As long as you want french fries, we’ll keep serving them. Crispy on the outside, cooked until golden brown and sprinkled with salt just the way you like them. And whether you order your fries with one of our juicy, delicious burgers or as a meal on its own with some ketchup for dipping, you can always count on us to give you the french fry fix you need, when you need it.
