Let’s face it, there’s only so much one can fit within the confines of two burger buns before it is simply impossible, or very difficult to eat. Toss in two patties, toppings, cheese, maybe an egg and possibly even a middle bun just to live dangerously and you’ve got a burger that’s probably bigger than your appetite.
One Canadian burger chain has come to rescue with a solution that’s nearly a old as time itself.
The bowl. Harvey’s has been around in Canada for over a half century, serving some of the country’s most-beloved burgers and fries. Of course, over the years, they’ve expanded to include some more modern menu items as well such as wraps and chicken filet burgers. The burger brand prides itself on its preparation - charbroiling each burger over a 600 degree Fahrenheit open-flame grill.
And to be honest, it sounds like they’ve got the whole burger business pretty much mastered.
So what do you do to top a near-perfect burger? Put it in a bowl. Heck, but everything in a bowl. And give customers a fork and let them eat.
Well sort of. Making a Harveys build-a-bowl involves three pretty easy steps - and as we all know QSR customers love simplicity.
First up, pick a base. Fresh, crisp lettuce, rice or fries as the base of your bowl. Two of these are fairly obvious healthy options. The fries aren’t the healthiest of option, but they’re fries so that’s ok. They taste good. I mean, they’re potatoes, right? Kinda healthy.
Next task, pick your protein. We’re talking chicken or burger here. But here’s where you get some decent options. Chicken: you want that grilled, crispy or buffalo? That’s a decent spread of options. Burger? Original angus, or veggie.
Last up: Pick your toppings. Now, the third and final step (before you eat, but that’s not really a step) is a biggie. It’s your time to shine as an individual as you choose from 21 classic toppings including some new ones that have been added just for this new menu item:
- Chopped tomatoes
- Corn and black beans
- Salsa
- Guacamole
- Greek dressing
- Crispy noodles, and
- Croutons
That’s 21 toppings to choose from. You want them all? Ask for them all. You want just one topping? Ok, you might be missing the point of the whole build-a-bowl thing, but go ahead...get your one topping.
The point is - this is new. It’s exciting. And it’s a huge step away from the brand’s existing menu items. So there’s familiarity there. There’s als the feeling that you’re getting a lot for your money. It’s a bowl that you can fill with a ton of toppings. What’s not to love?
